Diary - Sage's Mum on the great cous cous disaster of 2004

About 8 years ago I was involved in a nasty incident with cous cous (I followed the instructions for making it for 8 people at a dinner party. I started cooking it in a medium sized saucepan. It expanded into a big saucepan. And the wok. And the preserving pan. And the grill pan. And the rubbish bin. And the floor.....

Today, not content to merely re-emulate the previous loaves and fishes effort, I attempted to completely redecorate the kitchen, using only cous cous.

It was only a desert spoon full. REALLY. I'd added the boiling water, and was just putting it in the microwave to cook it up for Sage's dinner. I lost my grip (don't we all some time), inflicting a nasty welt on my arm against the microwave door as I jumped backwards to avoid the boiling water.

There is cous cous in the (previously clean) dishwasher. There is cous cous on the fridge door. There is cous cous in the sink. There is cous cous on the bench. There is cous cous on the pantry door. Did I mention the floor? Or my husband who was standing in the door way on the oposite side of the kicthen? Or the cook books. Or my pants. I've not found any on the ceiling, but I really don't have the heart to look.

I've taken the evening off to recover (and am now tramping cous cous around the living room). I'm hoping it will have all dried and be easy to vacuum tomorrow. {note: it didn't - it set like concrete}.

Wish me luck!

Mother Inferior.
