Development

(general info re development)

Large Body Movements
* When pulled to sit - braces shoulders, no back curve
* Sits with support for limited time in high chair or on floor with cushions. Some babies can sit unsupported bent forward with hands on the floor for support. A few can sit well on their own with hands free to play (this doesn't make them stronger or smarter than the rest).
* Turns from back to front and back again (some babies still aren't rolling - that's ok)

Small Body Movements
* Starting to drop, bang and throw objects together
* Holds an object in each hand
* Rotates wrist
* Picks up objects using whole palm

Vision
* Enjoys looking in a mirror
* Visually insatiable. Moves head and eyes constantly so as not to miss anything
* Stares at small objects (crumbs, fluff)

Hearing and Speech
* Attentive to everyday sounds
* Turns when called
* Talking noises vary in volume, pitch and with mood

Social and Understanding
* Interested in what others are doing
* Reacts appropriately to happy, cross or loud voices
* All but about 20% of babies start to become shy and apprehensive of others
